So much debauchery, so little time

I’m done! The jetsam of this quarter floats behind me, discarded and forgotten, and I’m glad to be rid of it. The final paper isn’t one of my best, but the good news is that I honestly don’t care. As for the programming project, it works, and what else really matters to the TA? Programming is arguably much less subjective than English in many ways.

After getting out of my last class of the year at 1:30, I had no idea what to do with myself. I’m so used to having responsibilities looming in the near future that their absence confuses me, but I’m sure I’ll adapt. I laid out on the quad with a variety of friends, then went to the CS picnic and got a free tee shirt from Google, which was very nice of them. It seems that my karma has come full circle, in that this afternoon I was hit by 1) a frisbee (really hard, I might add), 2) a soccer ball, 3) a football, and 4) a volleyball. Think about how unlikely the conjunction of those events over a period of four hours is. It can’t be a coincidence.

My final article for this year’s Daily ran today, and I’ll be damned if I didn’t inspire a throng of young people to launch themselves into Drumheller. Sadly, the article didn’t include the picture of me getting hassled by UWPD, because we’re tiny and far away; it’s really a shame, as I would have distributed copies of the paper to everyone I know. More in response to my exhibition on Wednesday than my article, a group of around 25 CS majors marched to the fountain and, pasty white, sunken chests proudly bared, posed for a group video on the central ring. I have to see that tape. Afterwards the annual grads vs. undergrads ultimate frisbee game played itself out to the grisly denouement, wherein the grads essentially said, “two more points and we’ll accept that you win. We have classes to teach.” They try hard.

Now, freshly showered and smelling quite nice, I’m mentally preparing for my night of hedonism at Golden Gardens and possibly a few other places. Listen to this excerpt of the event’s exciting description by Ken Chen:

“We’re going to have a great time with a bon fire, music, dancing gypsies, hootin’ an’ a hollarin’, marshmellows, sticks for marshmellows, s’mores, cold ones, fruity cold ones, hot chocolate, geek dollars, fire, swearing, polite small talk, strippers (by strippers, i mean talking about linux)… so all in all, IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME!”

How could anyone pass that up? Also worth noting is this email I just received from my very hip AI prof, over which some hapless CS major is no doubt shitting their pants at this very moment:

Subject: [Cse473] For those of you who didn't make it to class today.

Please be sure to pick up a copy of the takehome final that's due on Monday at 9am. It should be available on the web site soon.

Please get an early start as the estimated time for completing it is about 72 hours, and it will count for 50% of your grade.

good luck,

Oren

I love that guy.
