God bless bureaucracy

A sizable sum of scholarship money went missing from my account, so I went to Schmitz hall to track it down. I started in the Scholarship Office, who told me “You want Fiscal Services, room 129 across the hall.” In the Fiscal Services office, they told me “You want Financial Aid, room 105 down the hall.” In the Financial Aid office, of course they sent me back to the Scholarship Office, which, upon hearing my plight, told me to call Olympia. I left a message, so hopefully my money isn’t lost forever.

A guy could get used to this English major gig. I don’t have class on Fridays. For you non-math majors out there, that means every weekend is a three-day weekend. Ahhh.

In other news, Bryan’s and my Sublime cover band, Sublime S’more, is off to a great start. We just inducted three new members: Nathan, on the guitar; Laurel, on violin and keyboards; and Kelly, on guitar and viola. So far our repertoire includes a cover of “Santeria” with whistling instead of vocals, a cover of “What a Wonderful World” with largely invented lyrics, an a capella piece whose only word is “dorms,” and a cover of “Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. I realize that only one of those songs is by Sublime, but we have to start somewhere. Tuesday night we had a jam session with that last song with three guitars, a viola, and a violin. Epic doesn’t begin to describe it. It does kind of bother me that I’m the least talented member, but on the other hand that fact, in addition to my vocal “talent,” makes me the obvious candidate for front man. I’ll keep you informed of any upcoming gigs.
