Having just finished grading the homework assignments for my CS section, I was poking around on the course web page and found this hacker’s dictionary. Many of these terms are things I actually say fairly often, and I use this technique all the time, although I didn’t realize it had a formal name. It’s great for quickly telling the differences between two images, which is what I had to do to grade this assignment. I also am a big fan of this phrase – you have no idea how often the situation described comes up. Kudos to Alan or whoever for putting that essential link there.
Also, check out today’s cartoon by Nate Robinson, my ex-editor. In addition to being a fantastic editor and a great human being, Nate is the best cartoonist I’ve seen in the Daily in five years. Remember that David Horsey got his start at the Daily way back in the day. Unfortunately I’m not aware of any opinion columnists of similar renown for whom I could say the same.
